Great Win, But I’m Still Upset

And not because Dirk got a wide open attempt at a three in the last second. And not even because on the previous posession Jet shot the ball with 0.9 seconds remaining and yet the officials reset the clock to 2 seconds for the inbounds pass. So what then? Watch the video and see if you notice it.Dallas Ponies

ESPN Recap: Mavs @ Spurs

Did anyone else notice how Dirk is allowed to run almost the entire width of the court out of bounds, bump into Manu (defending the inbounds), then step in and accept the inbounds pass? Watch it again, I’ll be here all day.

I’m not entirely surprised a lot of people missed it; after all we’re just fans. But how about the officials; shouldn’t they have stopped the play then? I understand it’s difficult to call fouls on the last play of the game; but when it’s something blatantly obvious and pretty easy to identify the call should be made. This is easy to forget since Dirk missed anyway (he’s just not a game winning kind of guy is he?), but this kind of officiating needs to be corrected.

Two mini-observations:

  • After coming up with a great block on Jet, how does Elson lose Dirk on the inbounds anyways?
  • Watch the video again and check out Timmeh’s expression when Dirk shoots. Classic!

@ New Orleans (9/9/07)

Actually there’s not much to say about this game, just another game showing progress in the Spurs game.

New Orleans look like a really good team; it’s unfortunate that the fans don’t turn out to support the team but then I know I wouldn’t bother with it if I were amongst the majority of Big Easy residents.  In fact, pay close attention to the makeup of the crowd and you’ll see that the African-American representation does not seem to match the makeup of the city. What does this mean?

Well at the risk of being inflammatory; I’d say it means the richer, whiter class have had no problem moving back but things aren’t so easy for everyone else.  And of course that means the great culture of New Orleans may be on it’s last legs.  Sad… but anyways, enough social commentary.

The Spurs played great even if not up to potential.  What’s important is that the potential is there.  For an example, view the Sickness below…

Great stuff!

Thoughts on the Rockets Game (11/07/07)

Hmmm… where to begin? It was pretty much a crap game all the way around. The guys looked like they didn’t care and, to be honest, who can blame them. These guys are used to playing about a season and a half every year. And this is game 4 of 82 in the regular season. Still… it’s hard to not get a little upset about their attitude. Regardless here are my reasons to fear the Rockets:

  • Yao gets better every year; if only they could teach him to dunk every time he’s within arms reach of the basket (which is quite often)
  • What the hell is Bonzi’s problem? The only time he resembles a good player is against the Spurs. The rest of the time he just resembles a lost puppy. A very ugly puppy.
  • T-Mac is still a Spur killer as much as I hate to say it.
  • Scola’s overrated

So you’re thinking that I’m thinking that the Rockets are a good team huh? Foo, you outta yer mind! That said, here’s my reasons not to fear the Rockets:

  • Yao doesn’t know to dunk every time he’s near the basket
  • Bonzi is Bonzi, only a matter of time now til he throws some kind of tantrum
  • T-Mac is weak when it matters
  • Steve “The Franchise” Francis (does that nickname work anymore?) is lurking in the background, waiting to bring everything crashing down
  • Rick Adelman is also weak when it matters (sorry, it had to be said)
  • I like lists

Oh and there was this too…

So no worries Spurs fans! Let them have their victory; it was a good one for their team. Just have faith that the men in black will bring it when it matters.

Random Thoughts (vs POR 10/31/07)

  • Wasn’t it nice to see Darius Washington pick up a foul defending that inbounds pass?  You would have never seen Beno do that.
  • Wasn’t it also nice to see Darius hit that three late in the game?  You’ll never see Jacque do that.
  • I’m hoping everything is OK with Horry’s daughter.  For those of you who don’t know, Big Shot Rob’s first daughter was born missing a chromosome and is severely handicapped as a result.  As the father of a baby daughter myself, I couldn’t even begin to imagine.
  • Was it just me or did Manu have much improved hops last night.  Maybe a little rest will do wonders for “the Sickness” (showing support for the nickname promoted over at PtR).
  • The play was sloppy but it didn’t really matter; it was ring night after all.
  • The Blazers are much improved; screw Michael Finley Sr. (otherwise known as Greg Oden), I think they’ll surprise some people this year.
